Interview with Sharon Mason

Please share a bit about your journey to become a published author?
During my decades as a realtor I have shared many fascinating and surprising stories about my experiences with my friends, family and clients. Of course they have been anonymous. And all this time I have been told over and over, “Sharon. You have to write a book!” well first of all, one has to have the time and  be in a certain zone to even contemplate the possibility. About a 18 months ago, a long time client, after becoming quite a story herself, said, “Sharon. You really should write that book!” I said, “You’re probably right.” and I went away and thought about it.  At the time I was studying  Jack Canfield’s book, Principles of Success, and the current chapter dealt with the topic of “Just go ahead and do it… what’s stopping you?” Of course “it” was whatever any reader was hesitant (a fancy word for afraid) to attempt. I decided to take the leap and called Julie, my publishing partner. At our first meeting, she told me that I could not leave the planet and take my wisdom with me, that it was my legacy. That became the tipping point for me and I indeed took the plunge.

How does the writing process work for you? Do you schedule a time every day, work madly when inspiration hits or ?

I tend to set aside a couple of hours a day… Julie’s suggestion.. and I just start writing whatever is coming out of my head heart and fingers. No judgement, no worry of spelling or grammar… that all gets fixed in the editing process…  I found that the first thing a wanted to do was write my introduction. That would always remind me why I was doing this. Then came a rough list of the Chapters. Then I plunged ahead… nothing to lose and an opportunity to  have an experience.  I have learned to trust the process.

What title have you released? Can you share a bit of what it is about?

“For the Love of Real Estate – Tales from the Trenches”. It’s a book with  a diversity of purpose. First it is great for new or “wannabe” realtors. A dose of what’s  coming and what to expect.  It’s for anyone interested in what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur, since any journey to success involves the same principles of commitment, handling adversity and disappointment and a huge dose of intentional personal growth.  It’s for the public as well… what really goes on behind the scenes, the situations that buyers, sellers and realtors face in the drama of real estate transactions. All of this with  the lessons to be gained from the true to life stories I  have included.

Do you have any new books in the planning or writing stage?

I have just started work on hopefully a second book…. “More tales from the trenches”.

What would you like readers to know about you?

I am definitely in the “older generation”. I really believe age is just a number, and that one  always needs to move forward, finding ways to be challenged and not “giving up”. In fact when I thought about writing a book I joked, “At my age I better hurry up.” It was actually not a joke but a statement of fact.

Why did you feel led to write this book? What do you hope readers will take away from it?

What led me to write this is dealt with above. I hope they take away a new understanding of the real estate industry,  the very valuable work that good professional realtors do for their clients. I say “You will never see realtors and the world of real estate the same after you read this book.” I also hope they enjoy it and get some good laughs along the way. I try to educate and entertain at the same time.

Anything else you’d like to share?

How much I appreciate the team at Influence Publishing.  Julie , Lee, Anita and Tara are totally top drawer experts and wonderful people. I have had so much help, support and encouragement of every kind from these amazing women and I thank them from the bottom of my heart. I had no idea the journey I was about to embark on and they took me by the hand as I bumbled and stumbled along….forgave my technologically challenged mistakes and confusion with grace and humour. I have learned so much from you all.
